Bully is a beautiful Santa Gertrudis and was the first bull on the ranch. Santa Gertrudis cattle are generally the heaviest of the breeds. He is the proud papa and patriarch of most of the cows at Masleña and his hardy offspring can been seen peppered throughout the herd. Bully came to the ranch through a friend who owns a substantial cattle operation in the central mountains of New Mexico. In July of 2005 Jeff traded a days work of “cowboying” for the red-brown calf and brought him home that day. Jeff and Bully share a close bond as he raised him from a tiny bull calf to the big boy he is today. He went from a bull to a steer in 2010 when he was fixed (castrated).
